Here is a fun and engaging case study I completed in my UX Design class!

Sammie's Subs Franchise Onboarding UX Design Case Study

Project Overview

As part of my UX Design coursework, I designed a franchise application flow for Sammie’s Subs, a fictional sandwich chain. My goal was to create an intuitive, trust-driven onboarding process that helps potential franchise owners evaluate locations and apply seamlessly.
Part 1: Paper Prototyping & Initial Ideation

I began with low-fidelity paper prototypes to explore user flow, identify pain points, and establish a structured application process.
User Flow & Journey Mapping

• Onboarding & Franchise Discovery
• Users log in and review franchise requirements.
• A guided step-by-step flow walks them through eligibility criteria.
 Location Selection

• Users specify geo-location preferences and explore available franchise locations based on factors like square footage, equipment, and amenities.
 Application Submission

• Users enter financial details, past experience, and required documents before finalizing their application.
• Automated updates via text and email keep users informed.
Key Takeaways from Paper Prototyping

• Simplified user journey by refining navigation and reducing friction points.
• Identified unclear steps and improved the onboarding flow for clarity.
• Ensured logical progression by breaking the process into digestible steps.

Paper Prototypes: initial sketches and ideation

UX Design Case Study: Part 2

After refining the structure with paper prototypes, I transitioned to Balsamiq for mid-fidelity wireframes before developing the final high-fidelity prototype in Figma.

Visual Design & Brand Alignment
• Color Palette: The primary color palette is blue, with orange highlights, which evoke trust and dependability and reinforce confidence in a significant business decision.
• Brand Integration: The progress bar resembles a sandwich, subtly tying the UI into Sammie’s Subs’ branding.
Interaction & Navigation Design
• One-Question-Per-Screen Format – Simplified decision-making and reduced cognitive load.
• Clear Navigation Elements:
• Back button to allow easy revisions.
• Yes/No buttons for streamlined decision-making.
• Save Progress Feature – Enabled users to pause and return later, reducing abandonment rates.
• Dashboard & Hamburger Menu – Ensured users always had control and access to key features.
Final UX Insights & Outcomes

Simplified complex decision-making – Breaking down the franchise application into clear, digestible steps improved usability.
Built trust through design – A polished, intuitive interface reassured users of their financial investment.
Enhanced user autonomy—Features like saving progress, backtracking, and guided navigation gave users flexibility and reduced friction.
